We had well over 150 participants for the Spectrum Scale User Group at this year’s Supercomputing Conference held in Denver, USA, which took place on Sunday afternoon November 12, 2017.
A highlight of the event was several user talks, including Max Dellbrück Center, University of Pennsylvania Medical, DESY / European XFEL, and the University of Birmingham. We also heard about improvements to restriping and mmfsck, multiple enhancements resulting from CORAL work and other new features coming with Scale 5.0. We’re getting all the talks uploaded, so you can check out the details for yourself. We ran a little bit late as usual, but that was due to all the great questions from the audience. Thanks as always for making this an interactive event.
We’re looking for a site to host the next US event in the spring. If you’re interested in hosting, have ideas for a talk please reach out to Kristy or Bob at the US user group committee.
Update: Slides are available online
The Spectrum Scale user group will be hosting a meeting at this years SC17.
This global user-led meeting provides an opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and interaction with IBM’s technical leadership on the latest in IBM Spectrum Scale, including the latest updates from the CORAL project. This session will feature user presentations on the effective configuration of multi-site clusters, deployment options for industry standard NFS protocols, and managing mixed workloads with Big Data Analytics. The main agenda will be followed by a cocktail reception at 5:30 pm to continue the discussions.
Date: Sunday, November 12, 2017 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm
Venue: Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center, 650 15th Street, Denver, Colorado 80202 United States

Hi there, it has been a busy time for us here in Australia, and we have had some fantastic Usergroup events.
Apologies for not posting my blogs earlier.
I’d like to write about the event we had on the 26th and 27th April in Sydney.
Sydney saw our best-attended event so far with 29 registered attendees and speakers.
We had kind sponsorship from Mellanox and IBM Australia and we were hosted in the IBM offices in North Sydney, wonderfully close to good coffee and food and the train!
On Wednesday we kicked off with a fabulous whiskey and cheese night event hosted by Mellanox to allow some time to meet and discuss many aspects of operating Spectrum Scale, new projects and make connections nationally.

Many thanks to DDN for supporting this event in Brisbane.
IBM and DDN representatives will be at the meeting to cover various topics, and open dialogue between DDN and IBM and customers will be encouraged. As is the culture of the group, no marketing or sales pitches!
The agenda is being finalised, included in the day will be technical presentations on Spectrum Scale.
Please find all the details on the day in the Eventbrite event link above.
There will be networking opportunities after the Usergroup to meet with your Australian colleagues and sponsors.
